Ag Working Group #3 - Which commodities?

This element of the topic research was well-framed again by Bryan Grayson, “What subsidies to include - The affirmative could be given flexibility to cut virtually any subsidy it chooses or a resolution could simply list the subsidies with best literature.” Identifying significant elements of the topic literature among the different commodities offers this working group the chance to identify interesting wording options. The controversy paper, for example, mentioned one potential approach that would concentrate on commodities that have been recently experienced an expansion of subsidy support. Steve Mancuso is coordinating this work.

I think it would be a real shame if the big five commodities were not included in the resolution. I think affirmatives should have the option to cut all subsidies to one of the big 5 of rice, cotton, corn, soybeans and wheat

A topic that states the USFG should eliminate all subsidies for one or more of the following commodities: Rice, Cotton, Corn, Soybeans, or wheat would be simplistic very effective topic.

However, the other programs listed in the topic paper which I think would make for good debates are ethanol, concentrated animal feedng operations, and dairy.

The other issue is, does my proposed resolution allow for the elimination of trade restrictions....I don't think it does. I wish it could and would be willing to vote for a resolution that maintained the simplicity of eliminate all subsidies towards 1 of the 5 crops listed above and incorporated trade restrictions is a simplistic, clear way
